Join us for the 16th Annual Fair Housing Symposium featuring workshops and speakers for current trending topics likely to have an impact on your work. 

The Tampa Bay Fair Housing Consortium presents an annal symposium for housing providers, real estate agents, property managers, attorneys, government officials, apartment personnel, homeowners and the general public.

Implicit Bias Training – 08:45-10:15 AM:  The assumptions, stereotypes, and unintentional actions (positive or negative) we make towards others based on identity labels like race, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, or ability. Because our implicit associations are stored in our subconscious, we may act on our biases without even realizing it. Often, our implicit biases contradict our values.  Implicit Bias training is designed to expose people to their unconscious biases, provide tools to adjust automatic patterns of thinking, and ultimately eliminate discriminatory behaviors.

Presenter:  Jeffrey Lorick, Compliance Manager-Office of Human Rights, Pinellas County.  Mr. Lorick currently provides anti-harassment, diversity and implicit bias training in addition to investigating employment, housing and public accommodation allegations of discrimination.  In 2017,Jeffrey Lorick came to Florida from Indiana where he served as Executive Director of the Terre Haute Human Relations.

Fair Housing 101 10:30-11:20 AM:  Learn about the definition and allowances of support animals and reasonable accommodations; what constitutes a Fair Housing violation.

Presenter: Paul Valenti, Director of Human Rights-Office of Human Rights, Pinellas County.  Mr. Valenti is a life-long advocate for Civil Rights. In addition to his current position, he has worked as the Manager of Equal Opportunity at Lee County, and as a discrimination investigator for the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities.

2019 Fair Housing Poster Contest – 11:50-12:00 PM:  Learn from our students from Blake High School what their perceptions are around Fair Housing, Civil Rights, inclusion, diversity and fairness, and more.
